Product to guard against changes in employment law
Towergate Wilsons, part of the Towergate Partnership, has launched an Officer's Legal Protection policy to reflect the increasing likelihood of members of the HM forces suing the Crown.
Changes in employment law mean employers have a much wider duty of care to employees. Officers are now responsible for implementing and monitoring these requirements. Failure to do so could lead to a tribunal or court case.
Consequently, Officer's Legal Protection (OLP) provides up to £25k compensation where the insured may be deemed responsible and has to attend a court hearing at their own expense.
OLP also provides for the defence of a policyholders legal rights if an event arising from their duties as an officer leads to a disciplinary hearing, regardless of the cause. OLP will sit alongside side existing Legal liability cover.
The cost for the cover is £1 a week and could be offered to cadets at Cranwell, Dartmouth and Sandhurst.
Rod Breeze, managing director of Towergate Wilsons, said: "Towergate Wilsons offers cover for every other aspect of an officer’s life. This final piece of the jigsaw completes the picture. OLP provides the necessary protection against today’s compensation culture at a very low cost."
