Torus targets London market with new UK head of casualty
Torus has hired David Whyman as senior vice president, UK head of casualty to develop offerings in the London Market
Before joining Torus, Whyman was a director at Aon, focusing on excess liability placements for North American domiciled risks.
He has also held senior underwriting positions at Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe and Zurich Specialties.
Whyman will report to David Perez, president and chief underwriting officer of global casualty .
Perez said: “Current market conditions for casualty business are tough for insurance carriers as numerous carriers are competing for the same accounts. But in view of some recent significant loss events, there’s evidence that pricing will need to increase.
“David’s appointment confirms our commitment to the London Market and firmly establishes Torus Casualty in the UK."
Whyman said: “Torus Casualty will differ from other carriers in the UK - as it is doing so already in Bermuda, the US and Continental Europe - by becoming a key insurance partner for brokers and clients, despite significant competition.
"What has been fundamental to Torus Casualty’s success so far will also be central to our success in London - a willingness to work flexibly with brokers and customers as well as developing new and innovative liability solutions.”
