Fifteen vehicles were stolen in Greater Manchester yesterday as owners defrosted their cars during the cold snap, revealed a report.

Thieves took advantage of owners leaving cars running unattended on driveways, and stole 15 vehicles worth around £150,000.

Police warned motorists to keep a close watch on their cars while defrosting them and said their insurance cover could be invalid if their vehicle was stolen with the keys in the ignition.

Sergeant Bill Crittenden of Bolton police said: "Opportunists are out there looking for people who leave cars unattended while defrosting them, and owners need to help prevent these unnecessary crimes by taking more care."
