Emms to join Shaw on Thatcham board
Insurer vehicle testing centre Thatcham Research has appointed Zurich UK chief claims officer Tony Emms as chairman.
At Zurich, Emms has responsibility for Zurich’s claims across the UK. Previously, he was Zurich motor claims director.
Emms said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as chairman of the Thatcham board. Thatcham provides an excellent service to the insurance industry and vehicle manufacturers alike, producing data that assists in the efficient, safe and cost effective repair of motor vehicles.”
Emms will lead a board that includes Allianz claims director Graham Gibson, RSA director of motor and injury Ian Currie, Admiral claims liability department manager Matthew Paterson and Covéa Insurance head of operations within motor claims services Barry Street.
Thatcham’s member insurers pay about £8m a year to fund the research centre’s work on accident damage, personal injury and repair.
Thatcham chief executive Peter Shaw said: “Thatcham Research has an important responsibility within the insurance industry to support claims and underwriting efficiency through the work we undertake with car makers, government and road safety organisations. I am delighted that Tony Emms will lead the Thatcham board, his experience and knowledge will be an important asset to our decision making over the coming years.”
