Supermarket giant Tesco has launched an online legal store, opening up a potential new distribution channel for insurers.

The launch brings Lord Falconer's notion of cheap and accessible legal advice, known as ‘Tesco Law', to reality.

The Tesco Legal Store offers DIY divorce kits for £7.49, as well as DIY letting agreements and business start-ups.

The site also includes a directory of solicitors, a legal jargon buster and a question and answer service.

Tesco developed the site in partnership with legal publishing firm Lawpack.

Tesco said it hopes to attract more than one million unique users to the site in its first year.

The launch follows the publication of the Clementi review of the ownership rules governing law firms in March of this year.

The Clementi review, led by Sir David Clementi, proposed two new business models, the legal disciplinary practice (LDP) and the multi disciplinary practice (MDP).

LDPs will comprise of solicitors and barristers, while MDPs could see traditional legal services combined with other professions.

The proposals open the way for brokers or insurers owning, managing or participating in legal practices, as well as a new distribution channel for insurance products.
