Biba has produced a guide to terrorism insurance in mainland Britain.
Peter Staddon, head of technical services at Biba, said the move is to address brokers' and policyholders' lack of understanding of the cover provided by Pool Re, the government-backed terrorism reinsurer.
"A lot of brokers assume that the cover that they have is automatically written through Pool Re, but it isn't. There is a bit of misunderstanding on this issue," said Staddon.
The guide contains information on the history and function of Pool Re, typical exclusions under terrorism cover, and information on cover for dirty bombs, cyber terrorism and hoax events.
It also contains a question and answer section, explaining when an event can be considered as terrorism. The guide will be available for Biba members through its website.
