Swiss Re said its preliminary estimates of the losses that it faces as a result of the terrorist attackes in the US are expected to be in the range of the 1999 European winter storms, Lothar and Martin.
The reinsurer said its financial strength "is not in doubt" and it carries "provisions for large catastrophic events of this magnitude."
