Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) said it continued to anticipate above average hurricane activity for the Atlantic region during 2004. It said the level of storm activity would be similar to that experienced during 2003.
TSR predicted four tropical storm strikes on the US during 2004, of it said it expected two to be hurricanes.
For the Atlantic basin as a whole, TSR said it expected 14 tropical storms, with eight being hurricanes, and three classified as intense hurricanes.
It predicted a 72% likelihood of an above average season, a 21% likelihood of an average season, and only a 7% likelihood for a below average hurricane season for the Atlantic region.
The forecast spans the North Atlantic hurricane season from 1 June to 30 November 2004 and employs data through to the end of January 2004.
