Motor insurance repair centre Thatcham has revealed plans to invest £1m to improve motor vehicle safety.
The Hyper G Reverse Acceleration Sled has been funded by insurers.
The equipment will be used to test equipment to international standards. Thatcham hopes it will help reduce the 200,000 whiplash injuries that affect motorists every year.
DVT back in court
A group action by air travellers who claim they suffered deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as a result of flying returned to the High Court this week.
There are believed to be 30 defendants to the claims.
Reports said British Airways said that it would resist claims against it in accordance with World Health Organisation (WHO) advice.
The WHO advice states that no direct link between flying and DVT has been established.
Antur acquisition
Antur Insurance Services has acquired Carmarthen-based Edward Perry Insurance. Under the deal the business will be transferred to Anthur's existing Carmarthen office.
Folgate buys more
Folgate Partnerships will complete the acquisition of two new brokers this week.
The company remained tightlipped on which brokers and what lines of business they specialise in. This will bring the number of brokers acquired by the company to five in the past six months.
Berkshire spends
Berkshire Hathaway is to increase its participation on Trenwick's Lloyd's Syndicate 839 from £62.5m to £100m next year. The arrangement with the National Indemnity Company, which is a member of the Berkshire Hathaway group, includes a qualifying quota share arrangement for £30m.
Trenwick Managing Agents chairman Michael Watson said he was delighted with the deal.
