CBI challenges IPT
The CBI is calling for Chancellor Gordon Brown to tackle escalating business insurance costs in the April budget. In its submission for the budget, the CBI said: "There are two areas, pension funding and business insurance. The CBI called for the Treasury to reduce insurance premium tax (IPT). It said that this could be financed by the windfall from higher than expected IPT raised over the past year.
KPMG appointment
KPMG international regulatory services director Marcus Killick has been appointed as Gibraltar's financial services commissioner.
P&O travel deal
Travellers Protection Services Group and P&O Ferries have signed an agreement to enable travel organisers and coach tour operators to purchase travel insurance.
The insurance package, which includes information and a medical and emergency helpline, will be dispatched to customers by P&O Ferries on request and with mailers.
Asbestos warning
Claim repairs must be properly managed to avoid the risk of contact with asbestos. That's the warning from an asbestos seminar held by the HSE and Cunningham Lindsey.
Delegates concluded that under the HSE's new Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations(CAWR), those responsible for non-domestic buildings must keep records of asbestos containing materials in the building and inform anyone who will be working on them.
New Capita team
Capita Insurance Services (CIS) has announced its senior management team for McLarens Technical Adjusting Services.
The changes follow the recent appointment of Keith Wise as head of liability of CIS. The new management team comprises Adrian Cartwright-Bain, Peter Chart, Alistair Halley, David Pinkney, Ian Wallace and Mike Weatherhead.
