The proposition has been in development for the last two years
Specialist MGA Moonrock has revealed that it will now offer insurance for hobbyists and recreational drone operators.
Backed by capacity from insurer Hiscox, the product covers drone equipment up to £15,000 and also offers public liability insurance up to £1m.
All policies include worldwide cover, as well as protection for physical loss, accidental damage, indoor flights, fly aways and theft while in storage, transit and flight.
Claims will be handled by a team at Hiscox.
Development
Moonrock said it had been developing the product for the last two years.

Now the proposition has been launched, the MGA said it could offer a “whole suite of products and can insure individual hobbyists and large companies operating drones for commercial purposes”.
Simon Ritterband, founder and managing director at Moonrock, said: “We believe it is important to offer insurance to hobby drone pilots.
“The industry is becoming increasingly professionalised and it would be a shame if uninsured hobby pilots were to reflect poorly on the burgeoning commercial drone industry, which is already highly regulated.
“We’re thrilled to bring affordable, easy-to-buy drone insurance to the thousands of hobby and recreational pilots in the UK.
“After two years of development and with the support of Hiscox, we’ve crafted a simple, user-friendly policy that gives drone enthusiasts the protection and peace of mind they need.”
