20% of SMEs will be looking to change broker in the next year with price and level of service being key considerations, according to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
Stephen Alambritis, chief spokesman for the FSB presented the results of a survey of its members at the Insurance Times' Making money from SMEs conference in Birmingham.
Alambritis said that 21% of the FSB's members raised finance through their credit cards - a figure he considered "worrying".
He added that only 4% used government support services to aid business.
According to the FSB, 33% of its members are home-based businesses.
