Smart & Cook has made its 49th acquisition, completing the goodwill purchase of Berry Birch & Noble, as predicted by Insurance Times.

Berry Birch & Noble was part of Berkeley Berry Birch. It operates out of West Wickham and London and employs over 60 staff.

Group chief executive of Smart & Cook, Paul Meehan said: "Berry Birch & Noble is an excellent acquisition for Smart & Cook, and extends our footprint into the South East of England, in line with our strategy of combining national coverage with local service delivery.

"The business possesses a strong sales and innovation culture which augments the existing Smart & Cook offering. We are keen to develop a broader base in this area through further acquisitions."

Paul Harrison, managing director of Berry Birch & Noble, said: "The management and staff of BBN are absolutely delighted to have joined the Smart & Cook team. There was interest from other parties but Smart & Cook have a track record of delivering on their commitment.

"We will retain our existing staff and operate from our existing offices without any detriment to client service which is all important to us."

He added: We now have a great opportunity to grow the business further through the strength, scale and ambition of the Smart & Cook Group."
