The launch date for London Market broker Bradshaw Hort to begin writing business in Slovakia has been pushed back to 1 January 2005 from its original date of 1 October this year.
Director of the London market broker, which is arranging the facility, Tony Gough, said the situation was "fluid" due to the softening market. He said: "Things have not progressed as much as we had hoped." But discussions on the facility were continuing, he said.
Bradshaw Hort is seeking to arrange a Lloyd's facility for Slovakia's fifth largest broker, Concorde Insurance, to place insurance for office and residential blocks through Lloyd's.
Lloyd's was authorised to write direct business in Slovakia, along with seven other new EU countries in May of this year. The permission was for all classes of business except motor third party liability.
At the time Lloyd's chairman Lord Levene said expanding into the new EU countries would enable Lloyd's underwriters to better serve its existing customers.
