Fourteen risk managers from throughout the UK's public sector have been short-listed to receive national awards in recognition of their work.
The Association of Local Authority Risk Managers (ALARM) has short-listed them for awards across six categories for their work in managing the risks associated with the delivery of public services and helping to make sure limited funds are spent on front-line work.
Sunderland City Council has been short-listed in four of the six categories - an unprecedented number in the ten years of the ALARM award schemes. Dave Francis, the council's Risk Manager, has also been nominated for the top ALARM award - Risk Manager of the Year.
Others on the short-list include Leicester City Council, Adhur District Council, Hertfordshire District Council and The London Borough of Sutton.
The award winners will be announced at ALARM's national conference being held between 1 - 3 July at the Manchester UMIST conference centre.
ALARM Chief Executive Sheila Boyce said: "The quality of entries in this year's awards scheme is impressive.
"Up and down the country and through all sections of public service, Risk Managers are setting very high standards in their work and highlighting the need to identify potential risks associated with delivering front-line services.
"Their work is helping save millions of pounds in a number of ways, from reducing sickness levels and accidents at work to ensuring services continue to be delivered in the face of a crisis.
"We, and the various sponsors of each award, look forward to acknowledging their work at our conference."
