Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) has relaunched its fleet policy with the aim of driving down claims costs.

The product, FleetActive, has been redesigned to place "greater emphasis on duty of care," said Ian Barker, motor underwriter for the insurer's risk solutions business.

"It is about management of a fleet, helping customers to lower claims frequency and to cut out the hidden costs."

Policyholders will be given a single point of contact within R&SA who will advise on risk management of fleets. Each business sector will be given an insight into how their sector works via a benchmarking system, which will track claims frequency measured against their peers.

"R&SA is an industry leader in this field," commented Barker.

"Commercially we want to grow our proposition for clients we already have. This is about retention and growth, reducing risks and lowering claims frequency."

The insurer has also teamed up with opticians Dollond & Aitchison to give policyholders discounted eye tests.

Steve Stokes, operations director, explained: "There are 13 million drivers on the road without the right eyesight. Any driver with this policy can go to Dollond & Aitchison and get an eye test for £5 instead of £25. There are also discounts available for correctional aids."

The move comes a week after Norwich Union said it was set to increase rates in a bid to improve its fleet book's profitability. R&SA refused to comment on whether it would follow suit and increase rates.
