Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) has appointed Bob Fitzsimmons as head of Adjusting Services for its UK operations.

The insurer, which employs over 22,000 people in the UK, said the new role encompassed all the in-house loss adjusting field-forces and services of both personal and commercial businesses as well as Property & Casualty Services (PCS).

R&SA UK Personal managing director Steve Broughton said that since the purchase of PCS, following the collapse of Independent Insurance last year, good progress had been made in integrating the business into R&SA's own in-house adjusting service.

He said a strategic review had concluded that there was a need for separate personal and commercial adjusting arms within a consistent management and operational infrastructure.

"This new appointment will not only enable us to bring together the three adjusting teams at an operational level, but will also bring about an even greater degree of customer focus to our claims service as well as enabling us to share expertise and knowledge across these functions," he said.

"The PCS brand will be retained for our UK commercial business. Barry Woodward, currently Managing Director of PCS will step down with immediate effect though no reduction in staff numbers is expected.

"Barry was key to the development of PCS and we thank him for his contribution."
