Insurer hires from rivals Allianz and Zurich to grow real estate team
QBE is planning to grow its real estate portfolio in the UK and continental Europe with the formation of a new European real estate practice.
QBE’s director of property and real estate Mark Platten and real estate underwriting manager Andy Poole will lead the expansion of the existing book of business.
The company has also made two new hires from Allianz and Zurich to expand the team, and has plans for more hires.
Martin Gosnell will join QBE on 27 October as underwriting manager, closely followed by Chris Young, who will join as senior underwriter.
Gosnell has been real estate underwriting manager at Allianz for the past nine years and Young has spent the last 10 years specialising in international real estate at Zurich.
QBE retail managing director David Hall (pictured) said: “Real estate is a specialist area where we envisage profitable growth.
“In line with our strategy to expand the breadth of our client relationships, our real estate offering will include additional classes of business that deliver a complete solution for our clients, including support from our risk management practice.”
He added: “QBE has always looked to recruit high calibre individuals and I am delighted that Martin and Chris will be working with Andy to develop our unique offering across the territory with a view to a wider launch in the early part of 2016.”
