Ireland’s central bank has launched a probe into mis-selling of payment protection insurance (PPI), the Irish Independent reports.

The news follows a PPI mis-selling furore in England, which has seen large banks set aside billions of pounds to compensate wronged customers.

The paper said the probe had been sparked by fears that thousands of Irish bank customers have been mis-sold PPI on loans, and have been unable to make claims despite losing their jobs.
