Police in Lancashire are warning motorists to be aware of bogus insurance documentation after raiding a printing company's business address in Blackpool town centre yesterday.
Detectives discovered and confiscated a large amount of cash and computer related equipment containing the templates for making fraudulent documentation. A 40-year-old local man was arrested and was questioned before being released on police bail.
Detective Inspector Pat Gill, of the Constabulary's Serious and Organised Crime Unit said: “We appear to have uncovered a major insurance scam involving the issuing of false documentation. Now we want to warn motorists to check their documentation to make sure they are not victims.
“The fraud involves the issuing of yearly policies and monthly cover notes. The annual policies are all issued under the name of Equity Red Star Motor Policies at Lloyd's and all have the same policy number 054655187. The monthly notes are issued under the name Tradex Insurance Company Ltd via brokers Abacans of Preston. Again they have the same serial number 7688675.
“I must stress that this is not an insurance company we are investigating, but the printing of these documents. If anyone thinks they have been a victim of a fraud we are asking them to get in touch with us so that we can investigate. In the meantime we will be at Blackpool Magistrates Court this morning seeking an order to confiscate the cash we seized yesterday."
