IFB and Cumbria Police joint investigation
Four people have been arrested by Cumbria Police following dawn raids by officers investigating insurance fraud.
Up to 50 police officers targeted nine addresses across Cumbria at 7am yesterday.
The investigation was conducted with the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB), which used its data to help build evidence to support Cumbria Police’s warrants applications
This investigation is one of 112 suspected fraud scams under active investigation by the IFB.
In total the bureau is investigating cases worth £120m.
IFB director Ben Fletcher said: “This week’s action shows that fraud is not confined to the big cities, but it is a nationwide problem that demands a strong response. Our partnership with Cumbria police should send a clear message to would-be fraudsters – you will be found and you will be caught.”
The IFB has helped police make more than 1,000 arrests and secure more than 266 years in prison for convicted fraudsters since it was formed in 2006.
