Broker Outright, which was recently bought by Fortis, is offering text renewal messages to customers' mobiles.
Outright's infrastructure manager Paul Newman said: "We've so far found that around 10% of customers are responding as a direct result of receiving an SMS message from us."
Renewals are currently being sent out for motor policies and will be extended to include household later this year. Newman said the technology is currently only being used for Outright's direct customers, but will soon be made available to its affinity clients, including Willis, RK Harrison and Aon.
'Predictive dialer' software is used to send the texts. If a customer is unavailable an email can be sent out.
