Disaster recovery kicks in for software house
UK software house, Open GI, was subject to one of the country’s worst instances of flooding at the weekend with twenty-five centimetres of water covering over half of its 4,000 square metre offices.
The company is located in Worcester – one of the most badly hit cities in the UK - and employs 300 staff.
Thanks to a team of individuals successfully invoking the company’s disaster recovery plan at 11pm on Friday, 20 July, normal business was resumed in less than 48 hours.
According to Open GI’s chief executive Phillip Bell, this is the most disastrous situation the company has experienced in its 28 year history.
"A team of individuals from around the business came to the rescue, despite living in badly affected local areas themselves, and put our disaster recovery plan in action. The entire weekend was spent getting the water out of the business and rebuilding and replacing IT equipment.
“The immediate response ensured that damage was minimised and that the initial clearance work was carried out as quickly as possible."
