Omega Insurance will expand into the offshore energy market later this month after appointing the former director of underwriting at fellow Lloyd's managing agent, Aegis.
Philip Thorpe-Apps will join the Lloyd's insurer at the end of January to develop an account for Omega Syndicate 958, focused principally on offshore energy.
The company said, as a result, the syndicate's forecast income for the 2007 year of account, gross of reinsurance but net of brokerage and commissions, had increased to £264.4m from £227.7m.
The Syndicate's capacity for 2007 has also increased from £250m to £275m.
Meanwhile, Omega has said written income is up on last year following the January 2007 renewal season with rates, terms and conditions in key areas of short-tail, small to medium sized, commercial property insurance and reinsurance also continuing to be particularly robust.
