Hundreds of employees at Norwich Union's (NU) support services department have secured their jobs following months of uncertainty over division restructuring.

The "vast majority" of NU's central services staff have been offered "new roles" under the wholesale restructure, which affected 1,800 employees operating across seven major UK locations, from London to Perth.

A spokeswoman for the insurer told Insurance Times: "Only two members of staff were made redundant and while that is not good news others took

voluntary redundancy or were found new roles."

In January, NU announced plans to realign its IT, properties and facilities management teams. The insurer admitted that redundancies were likely in the central services department.

But the spokeswoman said: "The original number of redundancies that we anticipated did not come to fruition."

Amicus, the largest manufacturing union in the UK, with more than one million members in the public and private sectors, was unavailable for comment.
