In catastrophic times, there are always heroic tales of survival against the odds. The Yorkshire floods are no exception.

Having come to the financial rescue of fishing supplies business, Bennetts of Sheffield, NIG proudly proclaimed last week that it had played its part in saving hundreds of thousands of lives.

Despite 17 members of Bennett’s staff – and some 368,000 resident maggots – being marooned by the floods, all were rescued, much to the delight of NIG’s head of SME sales and servicing, Mike Crane: “We were delighted to hear that the maggot fridge survived despite floating off in the floods, so all [the] maggots lived to tell the tale.”

Exactly how the maggots will recount the tale – and whether the directionless fridge is to be replaced – remains to be seen. The maggots were unavailable to comment.
