’I am looking forward to joining the team and ensuring our compliance function delivers value in all we do,’ says new appointee

Zurich UK has appointed Hilary Bates as its new chief compliance officer, a LinkedIn post released yesterday revealed (30 August 2023).

Bates has been with Zurich since 2021 and was most recently chief operating officer for the insurer’s Australian financial services arm.

Prior to Zurich, she senior roles at QBE Insurance, Chubb and CNA Insurance.

”Hilary has significant governance and controls knowledge, alongside experience of delivering for customers across different markets in mature regulatory environments,” Zurich UK said.

Bates added that she was “delighted” to be joining the business.

”The UK compliance function is highly experienced and well versed in supporting and challenging the business to manage its compliance risks,” she said.

”I am looking forward to joining the team, ensuring our compliance function delivers value in all we do and working with my colleagues to deliver on our promise to our customers.”

Other appointment

This came after Zurich UK has appointed Morgan Lyons as its new head of mid-market earlier this month (August 2022).

In his new role, Lyons, who joined the insurer in 2015, will be responsible for leading the commercial team across the firm’s regional locations.

This includes Birmingham, Brighton, Wolverhampton, Whiteley, Swindon, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Farnborough and London.

He will begin working in the role from tomorrow (1 September 2023).

“Our investment in technology and development over recent years has seen our trading capabilities go from strength to strength,” Lyons said.

“Mid-market is a key growth area for the business, so being able to lead this is something I’m really excited about driving forwards with the team.”
