’I’m really pleased to launch this new service to our customers,’ says director
Yorkshire Building Society has partnered with insurtech provider Uinsure for a project that is aiming to improve accessibility, affordability and transparency in home insurance.
Using Uinsure’s technology and its partnerships with UK insurers, customers can obtain tailored quotes for five star Defaqto-rated policies.
The approach focuses on price as the key variable, aiming to streamline decision-making for customers and offer competitive pricing.
Yorkshire Building Society has decided to waive all commission fees, passing the savings directly to customers to prioritise long-term value.
The launch comes alongside research conducted by Yorkshire Building Society and published yesterday (8 January 2025), which highlighted the growing need for accessible insurance.
It found that nearly one in four UK households (23%) lack buildings or contents insurance, with high premiums cited as a major obstacle by 31% of respondents that said they did not have this cover.
Additionally, over a quarter (26%) admitted to reviewing their policies only once every two years or less, increasing the risk of outdated coverage.
The research was conducted by Opinium and was based on a nationally representative sample of 2,000 respondents, with fieldwork conducted between 27 November and 5 December 2024.
Chris Irwin, director of savings at Yorkshire Building Society, said: “I’m really pleased to launch this new service to our customers. Finding partners that hold values aligned to our purpose was absolutely essential.
“We’re confident we’ve found this in Uinsure and I’m excited to see how they can help our existing and future customers with their protection needs going forward.
Irwin noted the firm’s commitment to member value by “passing commission back to customers” and “reducing their premiums.”
He also expressed hope that this new service would allow customers to “enjoy life” with the confidence that options are available to provide the protection they need.
