Insurer Allianz reveals the weird and wonderful claim requests it has had this year
We all know that claims can be a wonderfully diverse minefield, however some claim submissions have the ability to baffle brokers or leave insurers inquisitive.
With this in mind, insurer Allianz has revealed its most unusual claims for 2019, featuring unlikely insurance targets such as unicorns and dog waste.
The oddest claim Allianz handled this year involved a claim to repair a damaged unicorn that had fallen off a famed London landmark.
This was closely followed by a claim surrounding a fire that was set off in a dog waste bin – the culprit had put a lit sparkler into the disposal unit, causing a nearby furniture shop to be completely burned down.
Claim calls
Talk about slow moving traffic; this year Allianz was also involved in a cement mixer mishap where more than 69 cars were encased in concrete.
Lastly, a valet driver was left a little red-faced after a claims experience in 2019. After cleaning a brand-new sports car, worth £150,000, the valet accidentally accelerated the vehicle into the rear of another £130,000 sports car.
Lee Watts, head of technical claims at Allianz Insurance, said: “These cases are just a handful of examples that highlight the breadth of incidents and unfortunate claims our customers are faced with.
“Insurance provides people and businesses with the security of being protected, no matter how unusual the circumstances may be.”
