‘I am confident we have the right approach and team to power future expansion and profitability,’ says chief executive
Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) has simplified the structure of its IT and operations team to “elevate its strategic position within the business”, a statement released today (26 June 2023) said.
As part of the restructure, chief information officer Des Burke has been promoted to group chief operations officer.
Succeeding Burke as chief information officer is head of technology shared services Nicki Tang.
Meanwhile, group chief operations officer David Fletcher has been promoted to the role of chief analytics and innovation officer.
And head of procurement Nick Sully has been chosen to take on additional accountability for workplace management in property, facilities and travel.
TMHCCI chief executive and chairman Barry Cook said the business now has “all the levers to support our continued growth in place, under one structure and one leader”.
“We have long recognised that technology and data are key to our future growth and this approach moves our IT, data and operations into a far more strategic position than they had been previously,” he added.
“I am delighted that we have been able to appoint Des, David, Nicki and Nick from within, reflecting the strength of talent we have in these core disciplines.”

Burke joined the business in 2021 after serving as interim global chief information officer and head of change, in addition to interim chief technology officer at Lloyd’s.

He brings over 25 years of experience in operations and technology roles at large cooperate across a range of sectors to the team.
In his new role, Burke will have responsibility for areas including architecture, technology, data, procurement, business transformation, enterprise change, claims and underwriting operations.
Fletcher and Scully will report to Burke, who in turn will report to Cook and join the TMHCCI board.
Tang, meanwhile, joined the business in 2019 as head of business intelligence and has held a range of similar roles in various sectors over the last 20 years.
