’We are extremely well positioned to build our portfolio,’ says chief underwriting officer

Specialist underwriter Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has made a senior appointment as it announced the formation of a new specialty reinsurance division.

The arm has been created as the firm looks to expand its portfolio in the sector.

It will be led by Phil Taylor, who has been appointed as head of specialty reinsurance – he will join the business in early 2025.

Vivek Syal, chief underwriting officer at TMK, said: ”[Taylor] is an exceptional underwriter and business leader and I’m delighted to bring him on board to work with our heads of underwriting to expand our presence in this strategically significant class.”

Experience

Taylor will bring more than 25 years of experience in underwriting and broking to the business.

He was most recently global head of specialty reinsurance at Everest, a firm he joined in 2019 as head of aerospace.

He also worked as an underwriting manager at Liberty Specialty Markets for two years and an aviation reinsurance class underwriter at Novae for more than seven years.

His career began at Aon, where he was an aviation reinsurance broker for 13 years.

Syal added: “TMK’s reinsurance expertise is renowned market wide and we are extremely well positioned to build our portfolio.”
