Insurance Times rounds up the biggest moves and promotions from 19 to 23 May 2025
Starting off the week, HDI Global appointed Phil McDowell as its new global sales and distribution lead for international programmes and captives.
In his new role, McDowell will focus on strengthening HDI Global’s relationships with global brokers and work closely with the firm’s local sales and distribution teams to launch new marketing campaigns targeting global and regional broker partners.
Then, Aviva added multiple underwriters to its London trading office as part of plans to get closer to brokers in the city.
The moves include Richard Collier being appointed as regional fleet portfolio manager, Emily Cahill as mid-market senior new business underwriter and Steve Hodges as mid-market senior existing business underwriter.
Following this, Brown and Brown-owned Hedron Network has appointed Chris Welch as its new operations director.
In his new role, the appointee will oversee the next significant change programme at the broker network. This will focus on how it will evolve its use of data to further help partner brokers and insurer partners.
Rounding off the week, Aon-owned NFP appointed Martin Alsop as the managing director of Clay GBP, its UK business management consultancy firm.
Clay GBP was acquired by NFP in March 2025 and is currently part of NFP-owned Ground Control Business Management.

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
