Simon Hughes 

At the start of the week, Cowbell announced that it had promoted Simon Hughes to the role of senior vice president of global distribution.

In his new role, Hughes will look to drive new business across the US and UK, as well as bolster product delivery across the two continents.

Then, managing general agent (MGA) Itasca appointed Gareth John as its new chief executive.

In his new role, John will focus on expanding the firm’s reach and capacity within the specialised aviation sector.

Nick Mountifield and Richard Beaven

This week also saw Academy Insurance announce several changes to its leadership team as it looks to transform into a “broking powerhouse”.

The moves will see Nick Mountifield  take up the role of chief operating officer from Richard Beaven, who will move into the position of managing director.

Both will report to chief executive Gilles Normand.

Karen Dayal 

Meanwhile, Aviva announced Karen Dayal as its new chief underwriting officer (CUO) for commercial lines.

In her new role, Dayal will develop and set Aviva’s underwriting appetite across commercial lines.

Indhira Mani

RSA also said that it had appointed Indhira Mani as its new chief data officer.

In her new role, the insurer said that Mani will play a role in “leveraging data as a differentiator across the business”.

Carolyn Callan

Rounding off the week, Brown and Brown Europe promoted Carolyn Callan to the role of chief executive for UK retail after it was announced that Duncan Carter would step down.

The broker said that last week (21 May 2024) that Carter was departing as the retail business ”nears the end of the latest stage of its transformation”.

Successor Callan joined the business as managing director in November 2023 and has been working with the retail senior leadership team to drive growth across the arm.
