Sompo International partners with Biba as it looks to grow UK footprint

Sompo International has partnered with Biba as it looks to grow its UK footprint, a statement released today (12 October 2023) said.

Sompo International is a commercial property and casualty (re)insurance organisation with over 9,000 employees and operations in the UK, Europe, Latin America, North America and Asia Pacific.

Graeme Trudgill, Biba chief executive, said the firm had a ”strong desire to grow in the UK insurance market” and would offer brokers an “important and timely” proposition as part of the new partnership.

“It is very encouraging to welcome Sompo into membership given their stature as a global insurer,” he added.

”Insurer choice for many Biba brokers has become more restricted in recent years so the new proposition that Sompo offers is important and timely.”

‘Delighted’

Sompo International is part of property and casualty insurance organisation Sompo Group.

Its partnership with Biba came after the firm appointed Claire Cordell as a non-executive director and chair of the audit committee for its UK subsidiary board of directors.

Cordell has more than 25 years of experience in financial services and most recently served as the chief financial officer for Aldermore Bank, where she was also on the board as an executive for two years.

A statement released earlier this year (6 June 2023) she was joining the firm at a “pivotal time” in Sompo International’s growth journey.
