Sompo International has appointed Claire Cordell as a non-executive director and chair of the audit committee for its UK subsidiary board of directors, a statement released yesterday (6 June 2023) said.
Cordell has more than 25 years of experience in financial services and most recently served as the chief financial officer for Aldermore Bank, where she was also on the board as an executive for two years.
James Shea, Sompo’s chief executive and executive chairman of the board of directors, said he was “pleased” to welcome Cordell to the commercial, consumer property and casualty (re)insurance provider.
“Her world-class leadership and expertise will be invaluable as we expand and grow our business globally,” he added.
’Pivotal time’
Cordell also has experience in dealing with mergers and acquisitions (M&A), having held roles such as M&A manager and head of investor relations at RSA Insurance.

Julian James, Sompo’s chief executive of global markets and commercial P&C, said she was joining the firm at a “pivotal time” in its growth journey.
