The new appointment is also chairman of Previsico and a non-executive director for PremFina
Parametric insurance focused insurtech Skyline Partners has appointed former Charles Taylor group chief executive David Marock to its board, to help drive the business’ next growth phase.
Sitting on the insurtech’s board, Marock will support Skyline Partners’ executive team as the company continues to scale.
Marock was previously group chief executive of technology firm Charles Taylor. During his nine-year tenure there, the company tripled its top and bottom line to provide a total shareholder return of approximately 400%. He has also worked as group chief operating officer at insurer Beazley.
Gethin Jones, co-founder and executive director of Skyline Partners, said: “Marock’s extensive experience and proven track record for scaling fast-growth technology businesses in the insurance and technology spaces make him a perfect fit for Skyline. We are delighted to have him onboard.”
This appointment follows Skyline Partners raising $1.75m (£1.4m) in funding from specialist venture capital firm West Hill Capital in May 2022, bringing its total investment to $3.5m (£2.8m).
Parametric full potential
Marock is also the chairman of flood risk mapping insurtech Previsico, a non-executive director at premium finance firm PremFina, as well as a non-executive director at investment platform Standard life Savings.
Marock is additionally a senior advisor to McKinsey and Company. He provides consultancy services to other companies too, including private equity firms, MGA ManyPets, proptech Goodlord and artificial intelligence organisation TruEra.
He is also an angel investor in various technology-related firms.
Marock, non-executive director at Skyline Partners, said: “I am excited to join Skyline Partners and work with Jones, Laurent [Sabatié] and the team to unlock the full potential of parametric insurance.
“Skyline Partners is laser focused on creating innovative solutions that can plug protection gaps worldwide - as an MGA, as a parametric structuring agent for complex and innovative deals for brokers and insurers and lastly, as a software provider for tech-enabled parametric solutions, with its INSDEX platform, a proprietary geospatial intelligence technology.”
Sabatié, co-founder and executive director of Skyline Partners, added: “Skyline Partners is committed to scaling the business fast and working collaboratively across the industry with reinsurers and brokers to do so.
“Marock’s connections and expertise will be hugely additive in the process.”
Skyline Partners has developed and launched several parametric products, covering risks such as natural disasters for financial institutions, the cost of violence for SMEs and agricultural climate-related risks.
