’Exeter has embraced the technology sector and supports the business community in so many ways,’ says director of cyber and technology risks
James Hallam, the broking subsidiary of insurance and risk management firm Seventeen Group, has this month (August 2024) opened a new cyber and technology hub at Exeter Science Park.
Based in Clyst Honiton, the science park offers laboratory and office space for businesses operating in the science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (Stemm) sector.
This move extends James Hallam’s branch network in the south west to cover four regions – aside from Exeter, the broker has a presence in Plymouth, Penzance and Torbay.
Steve King, director of cyber and technology risks at James Hallam, said: “It felt right for us to be in the heart of it at Exeter Science Park.
”Exeter has embraced the technology sector and supports the business community in so many ways.”
Specialist team
As part of the Exeter extension, James Hallam has assembled a specialist team to focus on cyber and technology risks – a field the broker described as being the ”fastest growing area of the economy” and an ”area of risk where clients require huge support”.

The new team will be working with an insurer panel to deliver specialist risk management and insurance propositions to UK-based clients.
King added: “This is a truly exciting prospect for myself and the team.”
