’Everyone associated with Sabre would like to express their deepest sympathy to his family,’ says insurer
Sabre Insurance has announced that Andy Pomfret – the firm’s non-executive chairman – has died.
Pomfret joined the insurer’s board in 2018 and took up his most recent role in September 2020.
The firm said he passed away last weekend (18 November 2023) following an illness.
“It is with great sadness that Sabre Insurance announces the passing of Andy Pomfret,” it added in a statement yesterday (20 November 2023).
“He provided valuable advice and insight to the executive team both through its infancy as a listed company and then as a chair in supporting the delivery of Sabre’s strategy.”
Career
Pomfret held several roles during his career, such as being the chief executive of Rathbone Brothers Plc from 2004 to 2014.

He was also a non-executive director of Beazley for eight years, during which time he chaired the audit and remuneration committees.
He was also a chartered accountant and a founder member of the Prudential Regulation Authority Practitioner Panel.
Following Pomfret’s passing, Rebecca Shelley, senior independent director, will become Sabre’s acting chair.
“Everyone associated with Sabre would like to express their deepest sympathy to his family,” the insurer said.
His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
