’He has an impressive track record and will bring a wealth of experience, expertise and energy to this new role,’ says chief executive
Pool Re has appointed Richard Roberts to the newly created role of chief finance and investment officer.
Roberts joined the government-backed terrorism reinsurer at the beginning of April 2025 and reports directly to Pool Re’s chief executive Tom Clementi.
The appointment comes due to chief investment officer Ian Coulman and chief finance and operations officer Peter Aves retiring in 2025. The pair have contributed more than 30 years of service to the business.
Clementi said: ”I am delighted to welcome Roberts to Pool Re. He has an impressive track record and will bring a wealth of experience, expertise and energy to this new role.
“I would also like to thank Coulman and Aves for their longstanding and immense contribution to the firm, having worked at Pool Re for a combined 30 years. I wish them both very happy retirements.”
Experience
Roberts brings industry and investment experience to the role, having most recently served as head of EMEA and Asia insurance business development at investment management firm Alliance Bernstein.

Prior to this, he held senior roles at Zurich from 2007 to 2020, including head of balance sheet investments for the UK business.
Speaking about joining Pool Re, Roberts said: ”I am looking forward to embracing the challenge of joining Pool Re, a globally recognised leader in terrorism risk financing. The real draw to the firm was its tangible sense of mission and purpose, as well as the commitment of its people, which really resonated with me.
“I would also like to extend my gratitude to my predecessors for establishing such a solid foundation, which I aim to build upon steadily in this new role.”
