The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has appointed Marc Harris as its new chief operating officer.
In his new role, Harris will be responsible for the regulator’s transformation, planning, forecasting and performance of IT, data and analytics teams.
He takes over from Karl Khan, who will leave the FOS at the end of this month.
FOS chief executive and chief ombudsman Abby Thomas said: “I’m delighted to welcome Harris to the FOS as our new chief operating officer.
“He is a great addition to our executive team and will play a key role in helping us deliver on the big ambitions we have for our service.
“I’d like to thank Khan for his leadership and support and wish him the best for the future.”
Experience
Harris has spent the last 20 years working in financial services companies.

He started out with Fidelity International and went onto work at several asset managers and banks, including Octopus Investments and Close Brothers.
Recently, he has been working with banks, helping them undertake digital transformation journeys.
He most recently was the chief operating officer at Alpha Bank London.
Harris said: “I am excited and honoured to be joining the FOS, to have the opportunity to lead vital enabling functions and drive the ambitious transformation agenda.
“[I will] support customers to get fair, timely and effective resolutions to complaints by delivering positive outcomes for the service.”
His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
