The promotion from active underwriter to chief executive is effective from 7 July
QIC Global, the international specialty insurance and reinsurance subsidiary of Qatar Insurance Group, has appointed Alexander Craggs as acting chief executive of Antares Syndicate 1274, effective from 7 July – he will report to QIC Global’s chief executive Michael van der Straaten.
Craggs, who has more than 25 years of industry experience, has worked as an active underwriter at Antares Syndicate 1274 since May 2019. He first joined the syndicate in 2010 as a class underwriter for property treaty and agriculture; he then acted as head of reinsurance between 2017 and 2019.
Alongside Craggs, QIC Global has also appointed Jim Lye as acting active underwriter. Lye previously worked as head of terrorism and energy at Antares, after initially joining the firm in 2012 as an energy underwriter. Prior to working for the syndicate, Lye was underwriting and claims manager at Infrassure from February 2010.
Van der Straaten said: “QIC Global’s new executive committee is ready to take advantage of the improving market environment. Following a series of measures taken to remediate our book, we are now well positioned to strategically and profitably expand the business.
“Alexander and Jim are outstanding, talented individuals who will drive this next phase in Antares’ development. We would all like to warmly congratulate them on their appointments.”
