The new hire is regarded as a ‘respected industry figure with a celebrated track record’
Mosaic Insurance has appointed Mark Wheeler as co-chief executive.
The global specialty insurer, which launched in February, combines Lloyd’s Syndicate 1609 with a wholly-owned syndicated capital management agency and underwriting hubs in London, Bermuda, the US and Asia.
Wheeler will work in partnership with fellow Bermuda-based chief executive Mitch Blaser, subject to work permit approval.
Blaser said: “Mark is a great friend and respected industry figure with a celebrated track record and I’m thrilled to welcome him aboard as dual leader of our company.
“We are completely aligned in our vision for Mosaic’s culture and strategy for success and it’s fantastic to be working together again.”
Wheeler is best known for founding Lloyd’s Syndicate 4000 and Pembroke Managing Agency, which was purchased in 2008 by Ironshore.
Following Ironshore’s acquisition in 2017, Wheeler went on to hold executive roles in global client engagement and international markets for Liberty Mutual Group.
At Ironshore International, where he was chief executive, Wheeler managed the creation of high-profile consortia and the division’s expansion to 14 countries.
A powerful platform
Proud to be back in the Bermuda and Lloyd’s markets, working alongside Blaser, Wheeler added: “He and I share many common values and bring complementary skills to the fantastic team of people we serve.
“Mosaic is a highly discerning underwriting business with lead-market capabilities and we are entirely focused on generating outstanding value for our clients.
“It’s a true privilege to be working with this talented group of people, supported by all our stakeholders, including reinsurers and brokers with whom we enjoy fruitful, long-standing relationships.”
Dan Haspel, managing director at the company’s anchor investor Golden Gate Capital, said: “Mark’s industry relationships and deep market knowledge are great assets to Mosaic’s highly specialised business lines.
“We look forward to supporting Mark, Mitch and the rest of Mosaic’s enterprising team as they build a powerful platform to meet complex risks for clients, partners and stakeholders around the world.”
