Marsh has appointed Nigel Hinshelwood as its new UK chair.
Hinshelwood will succeed Tom Colraine and is set to take up his new role on 31 March 2025.
He brings a range of experience to the broker, having served as a non-executive director in the financial services and insurance sector.
Places where he has held the role include Lloyd’s franchise board and Nordea. He was also the chair at Axa XL during his career.
He currently holds several external appointments, including being a senior independent director at Lloyds Bank, as well as an international advisory council member at Adobe Systems Software.
Prior to his board appointments, Hinshelwood held several executive roles at HSBC, including UK head, deputy chief executive, global head of operations and head of HSBC Insurance Holdings.

Veteran departs
Insurance veteran Colraine was announced as Marsh’s UK chair in 2021.

He held many senior roles during his career, including chief financial officer at AIG Europe and chief operating officer at AIG UK.
Prior to AIG, Colraine worked at Willis Group Holdings for nearly 20 years, from 1988-2007, where he held several senior leadership positions.
This included chief financial officer and vice chairman.

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
