’You can’t be what you can’t see, which is why it’s so important for young people to have access to a wide range of experiences within the workplace,’ says alumni programme manager
Markerstudy has given schoolchildren an insight into the insurance industry in a bid to highlight the “wide variety” of roles in the sector, a statement released today (19 December 2023) said.
The insight day was held in November and saw the firm welcome students from Jack Hunt School to its Peterborough office for a day of career-focused activities.
A total of of 21 business students aged 14-15 took part, with each receiving an introduction to Markerstudy and the insurance industry as part of the programme.
Lizzie Smith-Foreman, Markerstudy’s director of group marketing, communications and sustainability, said: “We always aim to support our local communities, so it’s great to see that Jack Hunt’s students enjoyed the insight day while gaining skills and knowledge that will help them as they begin their careers.”
The day
During the day, students split into groups for a careers carousel, which offered them deeper insights into specific parts of the business, including ESG, IT, marketing and communications, apprenticeships and customer service.

The afternoon gave students a chance to improve their job application skills, before a series of practical tasks and mock interviews tested what they had learned during the day, as well as their general business knowledge.
Feedback revealed that 93% of students rated the insight day an eight out of 10 or higher, while 92% felt more familiar with the insurance industry.
Some 80% also had a better understanding of the world of work.
The day was held in conjunction with education charity Future First.
Davy Cheema, alumni programme manager at Future First, said: “You can’t be what you can’t see, which is why it’s so important for young people to have access to a wide range of experiences within the workplace and with relatable role models in the form of employees.
“The insight day provided students with advice and practical skills on CV writing and showed them the wide variety of roles within the insurance industry.
”These opportunities wouldn’t be possible without Markerstudy’s support and dedication to boosting social mobility.”
