Markel has appointed Nicola Cunliffe as its new head of trading in the UK.
In her new role, Cunliffe will be responsible for brokers’ experience when trading with the insurer across the UK.
Her appointment comes as Markel looks to drive forward broker trading operations, with personal broker relationships key to its strategy.
Cunliffe said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Markel at such an exciting time.
“Markel has a strong reputation for its broker relationships and service-led approach and I look forward to building on that by ensuring UK brokers can trade with us in the way that suits them best.
“My focus will be on making the trading journey with Markel as seamless and efficient as possible for UK brokers.”
Experience
Cunliffe brings experience in insurance trading and operations to her new role.

She joins from Flock, where she was most recently head of insurance operations.
Before this, she spent eight years at Axa, most recently serving as head of SME trading operations.
Other roles she has held with the insurer include product owner and operations manager.
Jo Sykes, divisional director for broker and after the event (ATE) insurance at Markel UK, said that Cunliffe “is the perfect fit”.
“Her experience and deep understanding of trading operations will help us continue to enhance our broker proposition and build on our specialist approach,” she said.
“As we continue to drive profitable growth, maintaining and improving service levels will be paramount and her leadership will help to ensure we keep delivering for our brokers in the ways that work best for them.”

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
