London-based wholesale broker unveils new MGA as it announces restructure

Amwins Global Risks has unveiled a new specialty lines MGA as part of a restructure to expand its underwriting capabilities.

The independent London-based wholesale broker said it was organising its “underwriting operations for growth” and has ensured its new structure features three distinct entities.

One of these will be Contour Underwriting, a new specialty lines MGA that is initially launching with a focus on marine cargo coverage. Additional lines are set to be introduced through 2025.

It will sit alongside Amwins Amplify, a brand designed to provide products tailored for AGR brokers, as well as Unicorn Underwriting, Amwins’ UK-based MGA focused on fleet and commercial risk.

As part of the move, the worldwide property team at Unicorn Underwriting will become part of Contour Underwriting in 2025. The rest of Unicorn Underwriting will remain as it is.

“We are excited to unveil this new structure, which will further strengthen our underwriting capabilities and provide a solid foundation for our underwriters to focus and thrive,” said Nick Abraham, chief executive at Amwins Global Risks.

“In order to set the company up for growth, it was important to organise ourselves into broad underwriting disciplines and arrange our teams with a UK focus, specialty and AGR exclusive, which will enable us to work with clients and capacity providers in a consistent manner that aligns with their requirements.

“It means we come to the market with clear strategies and a focus for those unique disciplines.”

New hire

Simon Jackson, managing director at Amwins International Underwriting, will oversee the three entities.

Jack Bryan, meanwhile, has been appointed as an underwriting director at Contour Underwriting and will lead its expansion in the marine cargo sector.

Bryan joins from Tokio Marine, where he was most recently a deputy marine cargo underwriter.

Jackson said: “We are excited to have Bryan leading marine cargo, the first product line of Contour Underwriting.

“His experience and leadership are invaluable as we expand into new specialty areas and further strengthen our international offering.”
