The newly elected member will see Dominic Christian step down from his position
Lloyd’s of London has today (12 December 2022) appointed Richard Dudley to the position of working member of the Council of Lloyd’s.
Dudley, the global head of climate strategy at broker giant Aon, has worked in the Lloyd’s market for nearly 30 years and currently sits on its technology and transformation advisory committee.
Prior to taking up his role as head of climate strategy at Aon, he was chief executive of the broker’s global broking centre and its reinsurance specialties division for the UK and Ireland.
Dudley’s election to the council sees him replace Dominic Christian, who will step down from his position on 31 January 2023 following nine years of service.
The Council of Lloyd’s comprises 15 members, with six elected members, three executives and six nominated members – members of the council serve for three year terms and can be renewed for a total of nine years.
Extraordinary contribution
Lloyd’s chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown said: “I’m delighted to welcome [Dudley] as a new member – [his] election is testament to the extraordinary contribution he has made to advancing the insurance industry’s aims.

“As we continue to build a sustainable and inclusive Lloyd’s, [Dudley] will play a vital role in helping us live out our purpose.”
Commenting on his election, Dudley added: “It is an incredible honour to join the Council of Lloyd’s. For our market, the opportunities to grow and to further stamp our collective societal values are as apparent and important now as they have ever been.
“In this role, I’m determined to support Lloyd’s build on its work to become the insurer of the transition to a net zero economy and to help drive a successful conclusion to market modernisation.”
Carnegie-Brown added that the council were “hugely grateful” for Christian’s work and thanked him for his contribution to “tangible progress” at Lloyd’s.
