’I now have the opportunity to work closely with my childhood friend and it’s a dream come true,’ says co-founder
A new Leeds-based commercial insurance broker has been launched.
Entitled Kentaro, the broker derives its name from the Japanese word for strength and responsibility and will serve clients nationwide, focusing primarily on retail and wholesale, property, motor trade, construction and hospitality.
The broker has been launched by Dean Fletcher and Zahid Taj, alumni of Schofield Insurance Brokers, who have a combined 41 years of experience at their former employer.
The pair have partnered with Paul Coates, childhood friend of Fletcher, and director at the award-winning broker McCarron Coates. The new firm also benefits from close professional ties with McCarron Coates directors Ian McCarron and Luigi Maggio.
Real relationship
McCarron Coates will provide the support and infrastructure needed to establish Kentaro as an independent broker.

Speaking about the nascent partnership, Fletcher said: “Taj and I are thrilled to be able to launch our own broker with McCarron Coates’ support and to be in a position to continue to deliver personalised insurance service to clients backed by not just a premium, but a real relationship and understanding of their businesses.”
The two firms aim to provide complementary offerings, with McCarron Coates continuing its focus on fleet transport, scaffolding, roofing and manufacturing.
Fletcher was previously the head of sales at Schofield Insurance Brokers before its recent acquisition and rebranding by Prosura provided the impetus for him and partner Taj to branch out independently.
The new firm says it is aiming to leverage an extensive referral network among accountants and solicitors, while actively expanding its presence through a proactive sales approach.
