JMG Group-owned JM Glendinning is expanding its real estate arm by opening a new office in London.
The new space is located at 1 Bedford Row and staff based there will work to support property developers, investors and managers across the city.
It will be headed by new appointees Somerset Akerman and Jon-Paul Matyus-Flynn, who will work together to build a new London client base.
The office builds on the broker’s Birmingham base, which is where the real estate division has been operating from since being formed in 2017.
Chris Hitch, who established JM Glendinning’s real estate arm and serves as its managing director, said: “I’ve been looking for the right people to help us build the business in London.
“It’s not every day you meet people with the professionalism, determination and drive both Akerman and Matyus-Flynn have.
“They work incredibly well together and share the same focus, approach and values, which are in alignment with our own.
“This is a superb opportunity for us to grow the business, strengthen our offering and build on the strong regional brand we have built in the Midlands over the last seven years.”

Akerman joins JM Glendinning following seven years with London real estate broker Estate Insurance Group (EIG).

He joined the firm as an administrator and most recently served as an account executive.
Speaking about his new role, he said: “I got a real taste for the real estate world during my time at EIG.
“The JMG Group’s ‘people-first’ approach stood out to me and the opportunity to join the group’s real estate business to head up a brand new office was too good an opportunity to pass up.”
Matyus-Flynn also joins from EIG, with him most recently working as a development executive.
He has also held roles at other high street brokers working on motor, high net worth home insurance and commercial portfolios.
Speaking about joining JM Glendinning, he said: “I’m excited by the opportunity to establish a business and a team in London with the backing and support of a well-respected independent insurance broking group.
“Having support from Hitch and the team, as well as the wider JMG Group, will enable us to continue building the relationships we’ve spent time creating and nurturing.”
His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
