Gary Carlin, head of classic at Peter James Insurance, discusses the company’s entry for the Schemes Broker of the Year award
1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Schemes Broker of the Year category?
Our newly launched, tailored classic vehicle club partnership schemes have brought disruptive innovation to the historic vehicle insurance sector and have played a vital role in securing the future preservation of the nation’s transport heritage.
In a community that is experiencing rapid evolution due to changes in demographics, social habits and economic pressures, our unique schemes have delivered financial results for us and our club partners and provide true value for our customers – members of classic car and bike clubs.
We felt this was worthy of industry recognition.
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
We have revolutionised the typical method wherein clubs rely on advertising spend from generic solutions and have created bespoke schemes for each club partner and their specific needs, designing inclusive product features that add real value to vehicle club membership.
For example, our self-repair option recognises our customers’ unique abilities and truly free salvage retention enables the preservation of heritage vehicles for the future.
As well as contributing to a 30% increase in new business enquiries, our affinity partners have reported that the schemes’ tangible benefits and increased commission income have secured their very future stability and viability.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
It would be fantastic recognition for all our hard work and achievements – not just helping our clubs, but preserving our rich transport heritage and allowing our customers to derive more pleasure from their lifestyle.
We operate in a sector which is traditionally viewed as conservative and sticky in terms of customer behavioural patterns. It was always going to take something very special to break this cycle in a saturated market and our numbers would indicate that we’ve cracked it!
This award would be the cherry on the cake in recognising this.
